Compassion Ministry:

From Sue Immich, Associate in Ministry

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say, rejoice! Philippians 4:4

COMPASSION NEWS

Set aside Thursday, July 6 on your calendar!  This is the date that the Compassion Team is providing the concessions for the Plymouth City Park Band Concessions!  We will need help setting up, cooking, and selling the items as well as many donations such as cakes, potato salads and home-made beans.  ALL of our profits will be donated equally to WORLD HUNGER and to MERU DIOCESE SCHOLARSHIP FUND.

We can make a difference in the lives of others!  Look for the sign-up poster on the freestanding board this month.  It’s also a good time working with fellow disciples from Redeemer, getting to know each other better, and hearing great music in a beautiful setting.

RAINBOW KIDS UPDATE

Rainbow Kids is a non-profit organization founded in response to a call by God.  We are committed to serve children, adolescents, and adults who are grieving as the result of a death, separation, or divorce.  Trained Rainbow Kids facilitators and church coordinators strive to be a guide to listen to the children and adults with their hearts and support them through their journey from hurt to healing.  Rainbow Kids are there to wipe away the tears of those who mourn so that they may be able to see the bright rainbow after their family’s storm.  Remember that it takes both the rain and the sunshine to make a rainbow.

Teresa Jones is Redeemer’s representative to the Rainbow Kids Board and also serves as a facilitator and church coordinator.  Teresa brings this message to us from Rainbow Kids – “Thank you to Redeemer Lutheran Church for your support and the use of the church’s facility this past session of Rainbow Kids from January through mid-May. We touched the lives of 24 children and 12 to 15 adults this past session.  God bless you!”

Registration open for fall Diakonia classes

Registration is now open for Greater Milwaukee Synod Diakonia: Raising Servant Leaders, the two year process of theological education and spiritual formation for baptized members in the ELCA.  The process occurs through educational grounding in Biblical, practical, historical and systematic theology, by identifying particular skills and aptitudes in ministry and encouraging their use in the local parish, and by providing spiritual growth through worship, retreats and a community of students and mentors.

Diakonia students are usually leaders in their congregation already. Diakonia provides the opportunity to deepen their life of faith and ground their baptismal commitment in the teachings and traditions of the Church. It prepares them to continue to serve their congregation in significant ways.  The Diakonia courses in 2006-2007 will all take place at Holy Trinity, West Allis. The course schedule is:

More than Enough:
Living in God's Amazing Grace

June 1-3, 2006

Country Springs Hotel, Waukesha

Registration and workshops take place Thursday, June 1 from 1:30 - 4 p.m. Assembly opens with a 4:30 p.m. buffet on Thursday and closes at noon on Saturday.

The Theme for the assembly is “More Than Enough” and will focus on conversation among God's people as we discern what it means to live in God's amazing grace, to live with "more than enough." Voting members will have opportunities to experience abundance and learn how we as a church are working with partners like Lutheran World Relief to alleviate poverty in the world.

Delegations from El Salvador and Tanzania will be visiting during the assembly.

Worship will include music, preaching and celebration of Eucharist each day.

Preachers: Bishop Linda Lee (Wisc. Conference, United Methodist Church), Bishop Paul Stumme-Diers, the Rev. Gladys Moore and the Rev. Jeff Barrow.

Keynote speaker is Kathryn Wolford, president of Lutheran World Relief (LWR). Working through partners and global relief and development networks, LWR responds to emergencies and disasters in 50 countries. When Wolford spoke at the 2005 ELCA church wide assembly, she said that LWR provides "much needed help and hope not only in high profile places," but "places far from the headlines."

This year's Bible study leaders are the Rev. Gladys Moore and the Rev. Amy Reumann. Pastor Gladys Moore is assistant to the bishop in the New Jersey Synod - ELCA, where she serves as transformational ministries coordinator and faith-based community organizing liaison.
