StewardshipAs the Stewardship Ministry Team of Redeemer, we seek to encourage, not just “giving’, but giving to God. It is really a matter of the heart. St. Paul’s Principles for Christian Giving: 1. It is built on God’s gracious gifts to us. “Now, about the collection for God’s people… on the first day of every week, each of you should set aside money in keeping with his income” (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). We give as God has enabled us. 2. It is to be a joy, giving from the heart. “For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has… each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly… for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 8:12, 9:7). 3. It is out of faith and commitment to Christ. “… They gave as much as they were able… but they gave themselves first to the Lord…” (2 Corinthians 8:3, 5). 4. It grows out of gratitude for what Christ has given to us. “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you, through his poverty, may become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9). We can’t out give God. We can only respond in gratitude to God’s gracious gifts to us, and so we give from the heart.
