Discipleship
The Lutheran Course was well received and enjoyed by many through the months of March and April. Now that May is here, we will begin a three-week study on the readings for each Sunday. Join us in the Adult Studies room as we share together on May 7, 14 & 21. Bring your Bible along and be set for insightful sharing and caring for each other. If you’re interested in learning about the latest “gospels” in the news, such as the gospel of Thomas and the gospel of Judas, then we have a short study for you! Pastor Jim will be leading a two week session on these topics on May 14 and May 21 in the other half of the Adults Studies room. COMPASSION NEWS Thank you to everyone who gave money to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal offering on Easter Sunday! Some World Hunger Facts for you to consider: 852 million people are hungry in the world. In the United States 36.3 million people (including 13 million children) experience hunger or the risk of hunger. This is roughly 12% of the 293 million people (July 2004) in the United States! We live in an area where we are blessed with abundance – perhaps too much abundance. Please pray about this and listen to what God is calling you to do about hunger both in the US and in the world. SCIO News The Board of Directors of Sheboygan County Interfaith Organization invites you to attend a fundraising luncheon and silent auction to benefit Bridgeway House and Working Women’s Wear at City Streets in Sheboygan on Saturday, May 6. The Silent Auction is from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm and the Luncheon is from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. Bridgeway House is a transitional living program for homeless single mothers and their children. The focus of the program is to teach mothers necessary living skills so they may achieve self sufficiency. Redeemer helps the mothers prepare the evening meal on the 13th of each month. This is a commitment of time of about 2 hours and is very rewarding. Please sign up to help with this on the Redeemer board. Working Women’s Wear is a program designed to improve the status of women by providing appropriate work clothing and supportive programs at no charge so that women can become self sufficient and develop greater self-esteem. If you have work clothing that you no longer use, consider donating your items to Working Women’s Wear. The SCIO Plant Sale deadline for ordering spring flowers is MAY 5. Please complete the form found on the freestanding board, attach your check, and place in Jerri Hoehn’s mailbox, number 73. The plants will be delivered in time for Mother’s Day! |
